Choosing self catering holiday cottages in the Lake District

Choosing self catering holiday cottages in the Lake District

There are many reasons why you and your family might fancy a break in the English countryside and the Lake District is an ideal location for such a family holiday adventure. When seeking holiday cottages in the Lake District there are a few considerations and things you might want to consider before purchasing your cottage holiday from a website you have recently found or are new to. Be sure you check the reputation of any website before you buy online, you can do this by typing the name of the website into your chosen search engine and looking for reviews and comments from people in the listings below.

Once you have decided on a reputable website, you should begin to compare and contrast a few of the top websites here as the prices and holiday cottages on offer may very well be similar or even the same, if you are searching for a cottage in a particular location like Cumbria or the Lake district, then there are only limited holiday lets in the area so be sure you check a few local websites as the prices offered by the different websites may contain some discrepancies. After all any and every penny you save on the price of your luxury holiday cottage accommodation can be enjoyed in ice cream, or beer or whatever you fancy spending your saved money on during your holiday break, if you have children then you are sure to appreciate the extra money this may put into your holiday kitty.

For those families who are travelling with children, I can be considered a good idea to check if the holiday cottage you are interested in is children friendly, many holiday cottage providers are dog friendly, but for those with young children, there may be concerns as to how close to a main road the cottage is and whether there is any outside space in close proximity to any of the many lake district holiday cottages in the area, the proximity to the roads may be a real concern as in the UK county of Cumbria the top speed of the roads is a massive 60mph, however urbanised children may not be accustom to cars and motor traffic travelling at this speed as their residential streets will most likely be 30mph or 40 mph.

Overall the Lake District provides British families with a great, low cost solution to a holiday in the UK, although there are no beaches in the lakes, the water and banking’s at Lake Windermere are low and safe, there is often a life guard or park warden on duty to ensure all families in the area are safe and comfortable and the location has all the makings of a top runner in the UK travel chart.

What to do and see at the Columbia Icefield

What to do and see at the Columbia Icefield

The Columbia Icefield is a great time for anyone that enjoys an adventure and can tolerate the cold weather. Easily the most amazing part is that you can step out onto the middle of the ancient glacier. You can choose to have a tour guide take you onto the glacier for an 80 minute tour while he/she tells many interesting facts. There are also many other fun activities that take place amongst the Icefield.

You can venture out on a 2 hour long journey that consists of human history and shows tourists where the glacier is melting away to. The melt water from the glacier is creating marvelous ponds and lakes that are gorgeous to view. Scenery plays a huge role in this adventure since almost anywhere that is traveled is guaranteed to take your breath away.

The Icefield Parkway can be a great time if you and your family love to take pictures. On this mountain roadway there are many lakes and glaciers that are visible. Plus there are beautiful turquoise waterfalls that are just astonishing. Walking this path you will see very heavily wooded alpine areas which will lead you to the snow capped mountain tops.

The Columbia Icefield is known as the largest amount of snow and ice in the whole entire Arctic Circle. Knowing that you are standing on something so historic is life changing. Eight major glaciers are given life by the Icefield. The glaciers Athabasca, Stutfield, and Dome glaciers are all visible from the Icefield. Besides just giving life to glaciers right near it the Columbia Icefield feeds many different water sources. The Icefield runs into the Atlantic, Pacific, and Arctic oceans with the melt water that it provides. This is amazing to see with water going in every direction.

At the end of the day you can visit the restaurants that are lining the Icefield. The restaurants overlooking these great glaciers and mountains make eating a meal a great way to complete your trip. Don’t forget to also visit the souvenir shops to remember your amazing journey to the Columbia Icefield.  Leslie at allpro.com

The Staatsoper in Vienna

The Staatsoper in Vienna

Taking a trip to Vienna is possibly the ultimate high for an architecture aficionado, especially one that enjoys Romantic architecture. This sort of architectural tourism has been on the rise since low-cost flights to Vienna International airport became available.

In a city where even the most practical of installations, like bathrooms for example, were made with the utmost care, it’s no wonder that the National Opera is, first of all, a beautiful building. Its construction, designed by architects August Sicard von Sicardsburg and Eduard van der Nüll, began in 1861 and was completed in 1869. It houses an opera company that shares its name and is considered one of the World’s best opera houses, in terms of beauty, acoustics and quality of plays. It was home to great opera singers and conductors, including the World famous Gustav Mahler.

Although it’s not the most beloved building by the locals, the Opera House is one of the most emblematic buildings in the city center. Located in the town’s most important historical street, Ringstrasse, its illustrious neighbors include the City Hall, the Parliament building and the University. Even if you don’t enjoy Opera, be sure to snap a few pictures of this beautiful building.

Smooth Family Vacations

Family vacationPlanning a vacation with your family may seem chaotic, especially if you are bringing along young children. It is common that they will want to do something different than you and your spouse on almost every occasion, which even makes booking accommodation stressful. However, you can have a smooth family holiday by remembering a few key tips.

- Remember that your vacation is the chance to get away from daily life. Try to plan something opposite from what you would normally do. If you live in a busy city, try camping and experiencing large open spaces. If the kids have plenty of distractions and diversions, especially a place to run and drain their energy, it will be a pleasant trip for everyone.

- Your kids can help you relax! If you bury yourself in work all week, then let your kids remind you what fun is. Go to an amusement park, get involved in organized activities, go to the zoo. These are great ways to have fun with your kids, and relax from months of stress. Kids keep you young, so take advantage of their enthusiasm and have fun along with them.

- Book a hotel with activities, the pool is a quick fix for restless kids.
