We all know that wherever there is history there must be ghosts, and so it is true of Jim Thorpe Pennsylvania. With a cost of about $10, tours are generally around Broadway and none of the tours are terrorizing, just fun and kind of scary. Mauch Chunk was the original name of this town and tours take you to many historical buildings and places claimed to have strange events. Tours are always done at night, or course, and take an hour. The Old Jail Museum is another spooky tour. Here the gallows where several of the Molly Maguires were convicted and killed.

The hand print of Alec Campell is still visible today where he left it on the wall of his cell as he was removed to die. He claimed it to be a mark of his innocence. More of a historical attraction than a scare is the grave of Jim Thorpe. The townspeople named the town after him in exchange for his body to return to the area as an attraction. Today you can see the marble above-ground tomb with pictures of his great athleticism, placed on a mound of soil from Oklahoma, his home state. You can also read about his achievements and his life at the grave site. It may not be the height of luxury travel but it sure will make an interesting getaway.
