I feel that if you really want to discover a country you need to be immersed in its unique culture and no matter what you think, you can’t do that in a hotel. Surely enough, most villas are in complexes that are also designed for tourists, but if you pick them well, you’ll find one that’s both cheap and just lost enough in the middle of the country that you’ll get to feel the real Spanish experience.
It is a country of contrasts, you could say, where the old meets the new and where the countryside and the beach clash harmoniously but violently. The south of Spain is the perfect example of this. The old towns in the old Cordoba Califate have a unique architecture that, by clashing with all the rest, seem to strangely blend perfectly into the country. The same happens with the amazing city of Barcelona. The old bodegas and music parlors are door to door with young and vibrant new art stores and galleries and with the modern, fashionable clubs, for an experience you won’t soon forget.
