Staying Near the Airport

Staying Near the Airport

As you are looking at all the hotels that are near the airport you might find it hard to choose from them. Just about every big name hotel is there along with all the others. Heathrow Airport hotels that are on Bath Road will offer free public buses that go into the central area. You will see them coming, they are red London buses.

Because the airport authority subsidizes the cost, these are free for visitors. In your hotel you can ask for the free bus route map. This will show the area that the free buses run and each hotel will be clearly marked. There is a bus stop in front of every hotel on this road so if you are east of Heathrow’s entrance tunnel, then you are in the area where these buses run non-stop all day and night.

You might also notice the Hoppa Buses but those do not run as often and they will cost you to ride. Businessmen are the bread and butter of Heathrow hotels and because of this, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights will be thirty to fifty percent cheaper. This is a good size discount so you might want to re-think your plans. With discounts like this, you are able to switch from a two or three star for something a little nicer.

A Cruise Experience: The Nile

A Cruise Experience: The Nile

Alice Kempes went on a cruise on the Nile and we decided to share her experience with all of you:

One of the best, if not the best, cruises I ever went on was a river cruise. It sounds underwhelming, but when you hear that it was on the Nile, I’m sure you’ll understand my delight. First of all, the ship was one of the cutest small liners I’ve ever seen. Packed with all the modern facilities, it clearly emphasizes on comfort and the happiness of the passengers instead of packing as much people as they can in the ship. But all of it pales in comparison to the beauty of Egypt and its historical temples. We were lucky enough to have the most excellent weather, despite some excessive heat, and we saw some of the most beautiful temples and archeological sites in the world. If the Valley of the Kings and the Colossi of Memnon are simply terrific, temple complexes like Luxor and, especially, Karnak are simply breathtaking. But I must admit that part of the excitement of walking along these sites full of history was knowing that I had a cool and cozy cruise ship to go back to!

The Staatsoper in Vienna

The Staatsoper in Vienna

Taking a trip to Vienna is possibly the ultimate high for an architecture aficionado, especially one that enjoys Romantic architecture. This sort of architectural tourism has been on the rise since low-cost flights to Vienna International airport became available.

In a city where even the most practical of installations, like bathrooms for example, were made with the utmost care, it’s no wonder that the National Opera is, first of all, a beautiful building. Its construction, designed by architects August Sicard von Sicardsburg and Eduard van der Nüll, began in 1861 and was completed in 1869. It houses an opera company that shares its name and is considered one of the World’s best opera houses, in terms of beauty, acoustics and quality of plays. It was home to great opera singers and conductors, including the World famous Gustav Mahler.

Although it’s not the most beloved building by the locals, the Opera House is one of the most emblematic buildings in the city center. Located in the town’s most important historical street, Ringstrasse, its illustrious neighbors include the City Hall, the Parliament building and the University. Even if you don’t enjoy Opera, be sure to snap a few pictures of this beautiful building.

On the one side, you have a green capital on the Emerald Isle, full of life and energy just like any other major city, but still very much in touch with its Irish party-going and nature-loving side. On the other side, you have a relaxed town bathed by the warm Mediterranean sea, where the beat of the soft Spanish music is coupled with soothing winds and the rhythm of the waves. These two cities are now conjoined by and airplane route that’ll bring them closer than ever.
